Halo is a series of military science-fiction video games originally developed by Bungie Studios and later 343 Industries that are published by Xbox Game Studios. The world of these games are the basis for Guard Duty, a fan machinima series that takes place a decade after the events of Halo 3. The events of Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 4 are considered canonical to Guard Duty, with the series largely ignoring the events of Halo 5: Guardians and beyond.
Halo 3
Halo 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios and released in 2007. Ever since its debut, Guard Duty has been filmed within this game.
The port of this game by 343 Industries included within Halo would be used starting with Elsewhere, the fourth episode of Classic Season 2. Prior to this, the Mythic multiplayer-only version included with Halo 3: ODST was used to film the series.
Episodes Using Halo 3
- Season 1 (all episodes; MCC version)
- Classic Season 1 (all episodes)
- Classic Season 2 (all episodes; MCC version from Elsewhere to Dare)
- WarGames (all episodes; MCC version)
- Guard Duty Sides (all episodes; MCC version since Why-Fi)

Halo 2
Halo 2 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios and released in 2004. The port of this game by 343 Industries included within Halo would be used for a flashback sequence at the start of Truth, the penultimate episode of Classic Season 2. It is usually used to represent the past in the series, as the present day uses Halo.

- WarGames
- Boss (Anniversary MCC version)
- Classic Season 2
- Truth (opening flashback; Classic MCC version)

Halo 4
Halo 4 is a first-person shooter video game developed by 343 Industries and released in 2012. It is the sequel to Halo 3, taking place four years after the events of that game. While not used as the primary engine for Guard Duty, elements of Halo's world introduced in Halo 4 are referenced in Guard Duty such as the SPARTAN-IV Program.
When Classic Season 1 was being made, Syp intended to use this game to replace Halo 3 as the main source of filming until she realized a glitch that led to the character's gun being raised when they walked even if their weapon is lowered. As a result, despite the story introducing concepts from Halo 4 such as the SPARTAN-IV Program, Syp chose to retain Halo 3 as the show's main setting. Years later, during the production of the Classic Season 2 episode Dare, Syp once again wanted to use the game (albeit its MCC version) but this time to represent the A.I. character Valentine but opted against it when she noticed the button combination to lower the character's weapon was changed with an update to The Master Chief Collection she was unaware of.
It wasn't until the production of Retrograde, where Valentine was reintroduced into the relaunched series continuity, that Syp was finally able to use the game after learning the new button combination and was able to make Valentine as she intended from the start (now with a pink and red color scheme instead of lavender and purple). She will continue to use the game for Valentine as well as other potential A.I. characters, due to the game's green screen capabilities.
Episodes Using Halo 4
- Retrograde (Valentine; MCC version)
The Master Chief Collection
Halo: The Master Chief Collection, sometimes referred to as Halo MCC or just the MCC, is a first-person shooter video game developed by 343 Industries and released in 2014. It is a compilation of every single major Halo video game released prior to Halo 5: Guardians, with the exception of Halo Wars and its sequel. It is also referred to as Halo MCC as shorthand. Series creator Syp The Mighty has used Halo MCC for Guard Duty since the production of Elsewhere, the fourth episode of Classic Season 2, after years of primarily using Halo 3.

- Season 1 (all episodes)
- Classic Season 2
