Halo is a series of military science-fiction video games originally developed by Bungie Studios and later 343 Industries that are published by Xbox Game Studios. The world of these games are the basis for Guard Duty, which takes place a decade after the events of Halo 3. The events of Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 4 are considered canonical to Guard Duty, largely ignoring the events of Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite.

Halo 3

Halo 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios and released in 2007. Ever since its debut, Guard Duty has been filmed within this game. The port of this game by 343 Industries included within Halo would be used starting with Elsewhere, the fourth episode of Classic Season 2. Prior to this, the original release version and later the Mythic multiplayer-only version included with Halo 3: ODST were used to film the series.

Halo 2

Halo 2 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios and released in 2004. The port of this game by 343 Industries included within Halo would be used for a flashback sequence at the start of Truth, the penultimate episode of Classic Season 2. It is usually used to represent the past in the series, as the present day uses Halo.

The Master Chief Collection

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a first-person shooter video game developed by 343 Industries and released in 2014. It is a compilation of every single major Halo video game released prior to Halo 5: Guardians, with the exception of Halo Wars and its sequel. It is also referred to as Halo MCC as shorthand. Series creator Syp The Mighty has used Halo MCC for Guard Duty since the production of Elsewhere, the fourth episode of Classic Season 2, after years of primarily using Halo.
