This outpost was named after the Halo 3 map it uses, Blackout. As for why series creator Syp The Mighty chose this map in the first place, she believed it would give the show a unique feel to always be set at night.

This outpost was named after the Halo 3 map it uses, Blackout. As for why series creator Syp The Mighty chose this map in the first place, she believed it would give the show a unique feel to always be set at night.
Syp chose the Halo 2 map Lockout to represent this outpost in the past because it's the precursor to Blackout, the map used for this outpost in Halo 3.
- According to Miller in Memo Chat, this outpost was previously named "Outpost Lock Out" in reference to this.
Black Out was destroyed at the end of Classic Season 1. As Season 1 is still airing, it is unclear if it will have the same fate in the current continuity.
While Syp chose to use the Halo 3 maps The Pit for the Sides episodes Why-Fi and Tagged, as well as High Ground for Heated, Syp considers those episodes to take place on Black Out during Classic Season 1.
