"Alana Reynolds"

"Alana Reynolds" is a supposedly a Spartan who is determined to find Geff Rodrigo on Outpost Black Out, voiced by Revoltge. He is very much lying about his identity, stealing the name from a SPARTAN-IV he killed.

Overview

"Alana" is a deranged and violent soldier who usually attacks first and asks questions later, with the major exception being Geff Rodrigo, but only because Geff's survival serves his purposes. He is nonchalant about his actions, so make sure he keeps talking as it is when "Alana" is silent that he is deadly.

Role in Plot

Events of Season 1

In the dead of night during Fax, "Alana" drives up in a warthog from the ocean to the beach on Outpost High Ground. After parking it and stepping off to look around, he exchanged a look with Prim. Shortly after, in Machine, Cayde Jasper walks to the beach on patrol before "Alana" gets his attention and beats him to death. The next day, "Alana" steals fuel from High Ground in his backpack while observing the other guards of the outposts. Despite being seen in broad daylight, the guards do not acknowledge him even despite one of them bringing up that he saw Emery's warthog on the beach. Shaking his head, "Alana" heads back to his warthog where he is chastised by Prim as they discuss "Alana"'s mission: Finding Geff Rodrigo on Outpost Black Out.

He arrives on Outpost Pit Fall during Stashed, immediately incapacitating Percy O'Hara upon entering before sneaking up on Rico Suave and Dino Jones using active camouflage. The next morning, in Overture, "Alana" observes a confused SPARTAN-IV arriving to the now-silent outpost. He proceeds to follow her to her pelican before revealing himself by arguing with Prim behind the door to the pilot's deck within the pelican. Frustrated, the soldier yells to "Alana" to lay down his weapons and hold his hands up before opening the door to a laughing "Alana" that proceeds to kick her, dodge her retaliative punches, and ultimately snap her neck over his shoulder. Proudly, "Alana" attempts a one-liner to an unimpressed Prim.

Later, in Retrograde, "Alana" arrives on Outpost Black Out in his stolen pelican but only observes the guards for a brief time as he devises a plan to take Geff Rodrigo and no one else. However, after being convinced by Prim to bring all of the guards, "Alana" begrudgingly opens the pelican hatch to allow the entire crew enter by posing as the SPARTAN-IV he killed to them by claiming her first name to be gender neutral. Upon entering, "Alana" realizes he's low on fuel and makes a pit stop on Outpost High Ground for fuel to the guards' confusion. Leaving Mitchell Miller to guard the pelican, "Alana" heads into the seemingly abandoned outpost as he sees three dead bodies by its entrance before entering to take the fuel. After hearing voices, he leaves but notices the chest plate worn by one of the dead bodies as he encounters a familiar foe and her three Sangheili comrades before eliminating the latter three. After, he returns to a perplexed Miller who inquires about "Alana"'s sudden new chest plate. "Alana", however, dismisses him and insults him intensely after the two board the pelican. To the confusion of everyone, "Alana" announces another pit stop on Outpost Rat's Nest before going silent.

Emery Eden is the main antagonist of Classic, voiced by Revoltge. He is an assassin determined to find Outpost Black Out.

Role in Plot

Events of Classic Season 1

In Infinity, Emery poses as a pilot for the UNSC in order to take the guards from Outpost Black Out. He reveals to Geff that he killed the original pilot sent to do said job.

Emery makes a guest appearance in the final episode of WarGames, Ambush, where he stops at Outpost High Ground shortly after the events of Infinity to steal more fuel when he decides to eliminate members of The Damned who took control of the outpost since he had last been there. While he does successfully kill Riel and Kazi as well as several of their robot allies, he misses his shots for Corvus and Pink. After Prim criticizes him, Emery discovers the body of Louie Vargas wearing the Recon chest plate, in which he immediately takes to complete his Recon armor set. Emery then decides to set off rockets from his pelican to fire at the outpost. Returning to his pelican after, Miller asks if it was really necessary to attack the outpost, though Emery just insults him while dodging the question.

Events of Classic Season 2

After stranding Geff and the guards from Outpost Black Out on Cold Storage, creating a lie about their Spartan status as seen in the opening of Dare, Emery goes and eliminates the guards on Outpost Ice Box in Elsewhere. Now joined by Prim, a manifestation of Emery's more rational thoughts, Emery returns to Cold Storage in Arrival to threaten June and Sarah before hiding again.

He returns fully in Truth, in which he expresses his identity as a hitman with no ties to the UNSC and that he intended to take Geff in order to spite the engineer at Trinity who happens to be Geff's mother. When Miller attempts to tackle him, Emery simply hits the old captain unconscious with the butt of his rifle before doing the same to Geff. However, during Dare, Emery and the guards are ambushed by assassins Molotov and Cocktail on behalf of Trinity, leading Emery to take Geff and dive into the ocean.

Later, arriving on an unknown shipyard, Emery and Prim squabble before Geff wakes up. Despite keeping Geff alive through the ocean swim, Geff expresses discomfort with the situation, leading Emery to yell at him.

Trivia

  • He was designed by Revoltge, as it was based directly on the armor set he used in Halo 3 multiplayer at the time of Infinity's production, his voice actor who also improvises much of his dialogue.
  • He is exclusively referred to as "the Pilot" from his debut until Reactionary. Revoltge had actually come up with his real name, Emery Eden, in 2012 while he and Syp were making Annoyances, a Sides episode. It would not be revealed until 11 years later, in Truth, the penultimate episode of Classic Season 2 as he proclaims it to the guards. When the series was rebooted and relaunched with Season 1, his name is once again kept a mystery as he takes on the identity of "Alana Reynolds", the SPARTAN-IV he killed in its ninth episode, to the guards. Valentine later to it in it's finale's post-credits scene, with him instead referred to as the "Helljumper".
  • In the original script for Infinity, Emery was intended to be a throwaway character as an inexperienced UNSC pilot with he and Alana Reynolds being one in the same. When Revoltge joined the series, the character's personality was drastically changed and his role was later expanded due to Syp The Mighty enjoying his performance so much.
  • While he debuted wearing a Scout chest plate in Infinity, he instead has a Recon chest plate to complete the armor set upon his return in Elsewhere. This was an error, as Syp had misremembered his chest plate during production and had yet to fully rewatch the first season. Because of this, Syp included an explanation in the final episode of WarGames, in which Emery appears with his original Scout chest plate before stealing the Recon chest plate from the corpse of Spartan Louie Vargas, who had died in the previous episode. For consistency, Emery is seen wearing the Scout chest plate again in Dare's opening flashback to when he lied to the guards about being reassigned to Cold Storage.
  • In Truth, he mentions he used to be an ODST and fought during the Invasion War prior to becoming an assassin.
  • He and Alana Reynolds are the second characters to be animated outside of the Halo games during Overture, with Sarah Daws, Nicole Vega, and Robot being the first in Invader.
  • Infinity is the only episode in which Emery is not seen with Prim at any point, as it was made prior to Prim's introduction in Paranoia.
