Trooper, also called Spartan, is a mysterious man determined to find Geff Rodrigo on Outpost Black Out, voiced by Revoltge. He is the main antagonist of Season 1 and the protagonist of Rat's Nest.
Overview
Trooper is a deranged and violent man who usually attacks first and asks questions later, with the major exception being Geff Rodrigo, but only because Geff's survival serves his purposes. He is nonchalant about his actions, so make sure he keeps talking as it is when he is silent that he is deadly.
Role in Plot
Events of Season 1
In the dead of night during Fax, Trooper drives up in a warthog from the ocean to the beach on Outpost High Ground. After parking it and stepping off to look around, he exchanges a look with Prim. Shortly after, in Machine, Cayde Jasper walks to the beach on patrol before Trooper gets his attention and beating him unconscious. The next day, Trooper steals fuel from High Ground in his backpack while observing the other guards of the outposts. Despite being seen in broad daylight, the guards do not acknowledge him even despite one of them bringing up that he saw the Spartan's warthog on the beach. Shaking his head, Trooper heads back to his warthog where he is chastised by Prim as they discuss Trooper's mission: Finding Geff Rodrigo on Outpost Black Out.
Trooper arrives on Outpost Pit Fall during Stashed, immediately incapacitating Percy O'Hara upon entering before sneaking up on Rico Suave and Dino Jones using active camouflage. The next morning, in Overture, he observes a confused Alana Reynolds arriving to the now-silent outpost. He proceeds to follow her to her pelican before revealing himself by arguing with Prim behind the door to the pilot's deck within the pelican. Frustrated, Alana yells to Trooper by ordering him to lay down his weapons and hold his hands up before opening the door to a laughing Trooper that proceeds to kick her, dodge her retaliative punches, and ultimately snap her neck over his shoulder. Proudly, Trooper attempts a one-liner to an unimpressed Prim.
Later, in Retrograde, Trooper arrives on Outpost Black Out in his stolen pelican but only observes the guards for a brief time as he devises a plan to take Geff Rodrigo and no one else. However, after being convinced by Prim to bring all of the guards, Trooper begrudgingly opens the pelican hatch to allow the entire crew enter by posing as Alana Reynolds to them by claiming her first name to be gender neutral. Upon entering, Trooper realizes he's low on fuel and makes a pit stop on Outpost High Ground for fuel to the guards' confusion. Leaving Mitchell Miller to guard the pelican, Trooper heads into the seemingly abandoned outpost as he sees three dead bodies by its entrance before entering to take the fuel. After hearing voices, he leaves but notices the chest plate worn by one of the dead bodies as he encounters a familiar foe and her three Sangheili comrades before eliminating the latter three. After, the Spartan returns to a perplexed Miller who inquires about his sudden new chest plate. The Spartan, however, dismisses Miller and insults him intensely after the two board the pelican. To the confusion of everyone, the Spartan announces another pit stop on Outpost Rat's Nest before going silent.
Events of Rat's Nest
Before the events of Machine, in Rehearsal, Trooper arrives on Outpost Rat's Nest and observes the guards stationed there. Here, he grows frustrated and rants to himself. Eventually, in Break a Leg, Trooper announces himself to the Rat's Nest guards before being shot at by its captain Raven Carmine. After being doubted by the guards, Trooper explains that he's seeking Geff Rodrigo on behalf of HQ before interrupting himself to ask where he is, under the false assumption he was on Outpost Black Out due to bad intel from someone named Molotov. Frustrated, Trooper asks to use the outpost's computers before being denied by Carmine and instead is told he'll remain there to wait for a Spartan who is scheduled to arrive. Trooper goes along with it, confidently telling Carmine that she'll regret it, before Carmine dismisses him and orders Polly Pockett to take confiscate his weapon. Jace Casper is then ordered to guide Trooper to the prison hold, with Dina Jones preparing it for him. Trooper follows Jace without any concern.

Trivia
- Trooper's armor and colors were chosen by Revoltge, based directly on the armor set he used in Halo 3 multiplayer at the time of Infinity's production, who is also his voice actor that improvises much of his dialogue.
- He is exclusively referred to as Pilot from his debut until Reactionary, when his name is revealed to be Emery Eden. Revoltge had actually come up with this name in 2012 while he and Syp were making Annoyances, a Sides episode. It would not be revealed until 11 years later, in the penultimate episode of Classic Season 2 as he proclaims it to the guards. When the series was rebooted and relaunched with Season 1, his name is once again kept a mystery as he takes on the identity of Spartan Alana Reynolds, he killed in its ninth episode, to the guards and is mainly referred to as Spartan. In the season finale, Valentine alludes to it during the mid-credits scene, with Brigadier referring to him as the Helljumper.
- Despite this, he is called Emery in the end credits of Season 1.
- In the original script for Infinity, the Spartan was intended to be a throwaway character as an inexperienced UNSC pilot with he and Alana Reynolds being one in the same. When Revoltge joined the series, the character's personality was drastically changed and his role was later expanded due to Syp The Mighty enjoying his performance so much.
- While he debuted wearing a Scout chest plate in Infinity, the Spartan instead has a Recon chest plate to complete the armor set upon his return in Elsewhere. This was an error, as Syp had misremembered his chest plate during production and had yet to fully rewatch the first season. Because of this, Syp included an explanation in the final episode of WarGames, in which the Spartan appears with his original Scout chest plate before stealing the Recon chest plate from the corpse of Louie Vargas, who had died in the previous episode. For consistency, the Spartan is seen wearing the Scout chest plate again in Dare's opening flashback to when he lied to the guards about being reassigned to Relic Base. This event was maintained in the new Season 1, gaining his recon chest plate in Retrograde after wearing the scout chest plate prior.
- In Truth, the Spartan mentions he used to be an ODST and fought during the Invasion War. He is even referred to as Trooper by Molotov and Cocktail in Dare. He would appear with his ODST armor in Rat's Nest, with him being referred to as Trooper in its end credits.
- Trooper and Alana Reynolds are the second characters to be animated outside of the Halo games during Overture, with Sarah Daws, Nicole Vega, and Robot being the first in Invader.
- Infinity is the only episode in which the Spartan is not seen with Prim at any point, as it was made prior to Prim's introduction in Paranoia.
- He appears in a special video announcing the cast of jaxbeetle's upcoming series Nine to Five, sending an audition for it's lead character Shep Ackerman.
